It is true in every field that the practitioners of the work bring their own perspectives, biases, and understanding of the world to the work they do.
Design Justice: Community-Led Practices to Build the World We Need, written by Sasha Costanza-Chock, is an informative guide for designers who seek to understand the ways in which our systems are already steeped in white supremacist, ableist, gendered, classist, etc., sentiment -- and how we might begin to go about dismantling those systems through a radical shift in the way we approach design practices. Costanza-Chock builds on the foundational work of the Design Justice Network (and their principles for design justice) with real-world examples and tools for putting those principles into action.
